1. How Does A Mommy Makeover Procedure Work?
Becoming a mother is one of life’s most rewarding and joyous experiences but it can also bring significant unwanted changes to the body that can’t be easily reversed with diet and exercise.
The effects of pregnancy and breastfeeding on the body are unique to each woman so Dr. Bovill works with you to find the best combination of procedures to optimally restore your pre-pregnancy form.
2. What Procedures Can Be Involved In A Mommy Makeover?
There are a number of different options available in a mommy makeover, which you can decide in a private discussion with Dr. Bovill.
Here are some of the common surgical procedures that be combined during a single day of plastic surgery:
1. Abdominoplasty:
This can involve the removal of excess of fat and skin in your abdomen area and the tightening of abdominal muscles to re-create a flat tummy. Where appropriate, a less invasive mini-abdominoplasty can revise Cesarian section scars and address the frustrating ‘overhang’ that often results from the combination of stretched abdominal skin and tethered scar.
2. Liposuction:
If you're having trouble losing weight in specific areas after giving birth, a liposuction procedure can help to remove stubborn deposits of fat. It is most successful as a contouring adjunct, for example in combination with a skin removing procedure.
3. Breast Augmentation:
Can restore firmness to deflated breast tissue, often providing a lift effect, and restoring a round and perky breast shape. A breast lift is sometimes required in combination, for optimum shape, nipple position and longevity of result.
4. Breast Lift with Autoaugmentation:
Putting all the deflated tissue and skin to good use! If a new mother prefers to avoid implants, for example, full glandular rearrangement techniques can achieve long lasting results not previously possible with skin-only breast lifts.
5. Skin Contouring:
As with post-weight loss candidates, this can involve the improvement of skin elasticity and skin tone along with the removal of unwanted stretch marks.
3. Who Is An Ideal Candidate For Mommy Makeover Surgery?
Here is what to consider to assess if you are a good candidate for a mommy makeover procedure:
- You are in generally good overall health as this is an important prerequisite for most surgeries.
- You currently do not intend to have any more children. While you may later decide to have children after having a mommy makeover, it may reverse some of the results you gained from the procedure.
- You are not currently breastfeeding. It is recommended to wait until you have fully stopped breastfeeding, or at least 3-6 months after giving birth if you do not breastfeed.
- You have reached a healthy weight, which you intend to maintain within a range of 10-15 pounds. Significant weight fluctuations can lead to negative impacts on the effectiveness of mommy makeover procedures.
4. How The Post-Operation Recovery Time Works:
One of the advantages of getting a mommy makeover is you can get more than one plastic surgery procedure at the same time, so the overall recovery time is reduced and in most cases you can return home later the same day.
The recovery time for a mommy makeover can depend on the plastic surgery procedures you choose to have done but it is generally a good rule of thumb to have someone to help you for 3 days after surgery and you should count on having someone to care for your children for at least a week after surgery.
After your surgery, your scars will gradually lighten and become less noticeable. Dr. Bovill uses a conservative, precision-minded technique that helps keep incisions well hidden throughout your treatment.
After a few weeks of recovery time, you can expect to have more confidence in your appearance and enjoy natural-looking and long-lasting results.
